house rules

take care of the room.

and the people in it.

mmt. is a shared space.

most of the rules are simple: be considerate, use things properly, and leave the room ready for whoever comes next.

01

people first.

a boundary, not etiquette

treat everyone here with respect.

Harassment, intimidation, discrimination, unwanted sexual behaviour, threatening behaviour or deliberately making someone feel unsafe is not welcome at MMT.

Respect people's boundaries. A yes to a dance, conversation, photograph, drink or invitation once is not a yes forever.

If someone says no, declines, moves away or asks you to stop: stop. No explanation is owed.

MMT may ask someone to leave if their behaviour is making other people unsafe or seriously uncomfortable.

02

share the floor.

Look after the people moving around you. Keep movements appropriate to the available space and the number of people on the floor.

During partner dance and open floor, be aware of traffic around you and avoid movements that could endanger other people. Practise with control. If the floor is busy, use less space.

Don't monopolise shared floor space when other people are waiting to use it.

Indoor dance and movement shoes are welcome. Please avoid footwear that is wet, dirty, leaves marks, has exposed metal, or may damage the floor. If you're unsure whether your shoes are suitable, ask us.

03

look after the floor.

The floor is one of the things we've invested in most. Please help us keep it good.

No dragging heavy furniture — lift it where possible, or ask for help.

Don't apply wax, powder, oil, rosin, adhesive or floor treatment without explicit permission from MMT. Don't use equipment, footwear or materials that may scratch, stain or permanently mark it.

Clean spills promptly and let us know if anything has been damaged.

04

use it. don't wreck it.

The room is meant to be lived in. Sit on the couch. Move the chairs. Use the counter. Make things. Dance. Just treat the space like something you'd like to find in good condition when you come back.

Don't attach anything to walls, mirrors, windows, ceiling, lighting or furniture without permission. No drilling, nailing, permanent adhesive or alterations.

If you move MMT furniture or equipment, return it to its original setup when you're finished unless the team tells you otherwise.

Damage should be reported rather than quietly hidden.

05

the mirror is a mirror.
not a wall.

Please don't lean furniture, equipment or heavy objects against it, and don't attach decorations, tape or adhesive without permission.

Keep drinks and activities that could damage it at a sensible distance. For private hire, any installation near the mirror must be approved in advance.

06

eat. drink.
just be sensible.

Food and drinks are welcome where the event or booking allows them, subject to event and hire arrangements.

Please keep open drinks away from areas where people are actively moving. If something spills, deal with it quickly or tell us.

Don't bring or prepare anything that requires cooking, open flame or specialist equipment without prior approval. If you're planning catering, alcohol service or food preparation for a private hire, tell us during the enquiry.

07

not inside.

No smoking or vaping inside MMT. Keep entrances and shared building areas considerate, and follow the building's rules.

08

good music.
good neighbours.

Music is part of MMT. So is being able to keep using the room.

Use the sound system responsibly and follow any volume instructions from the team. Private-hire guests shouldn't bring additional high-powered sound equipment without prior approval.

We may reduce volume where necessary because of the building, neighbours, safety or operating requirements.

09

some moments
don't need an audience.

Casual photography is generally fine unless an event says otherwise — but please respect the people around you.

Don't photograph or film someone who has asked not to be included, and don't turn a social event into an unsolicited content shoot.

Professional, commercial or organised photography requires the appropriate booking or prior approval.

10

keep an eye
on your things.

Bags and personal belongings should be kept where they don't block walkways or movement areas.

We can't guarantee supervision of personal belongings, so please don't leave valuables unattended.

11

open floor
means shared floor.

Open floor is unstructured practice time, not private studio hire. Other people may be using the room.

Be aware of how much space you're using and make room for others. Equipment, music and activities should stay appropriate to a shared environment. If you need exclusive use of the room, book private hire instead.

Open floor is available during scheduled sessions and is subject to capacity. It isn't unrestricted 24/7 access.

12

membership doesn't
mean ownership.

Members are encouraged to feel at home here — but MMT remains a shared space.

Membership doesn't provide unrestricted access to the room, priority over people already using shared space, or permission to use the studio outside scheduled access.

Some events, private hires and programmes mean the room is unavailable for member use. Always check the current schedule.

13

your booking.
your responsibility.

The person making a private booking is responsible for making sure their group uses the space appropriately, and only for the activity agreed in the booking.

If your plans change significantly — number of guests, type of activity, equipment, catering, filming, alcohol, installations or anything else that materially changes how the room will be used — tell us beforehand. Approval for one type of booking doesn't automatically cover another.

Start and finish within your booked time, including setup and pack-down unless otherwise agreed, and leave the room in the agreed condition.

Cleaning, damage, overtime and deposit arrangements sit in the formal hire terms rather than here.

14

don't improvise
with safety.

a boundary, not etiquette

Keep exits, doors and access routes clear. Don't interfere with fire equipment, exit signage, electrical panels or building safety equipment.

No open flames, smoke effects, hazardous materials or unusual electrical and installation setups without prior approval.

Follow instructions from MMT or building staff if an evacuation or safety issue occurs.

15

tell us.

Spilled something? Broke something? Noticed something unsafe? Someone making you uncomfortable?

tell us.

We would much rather know while we can still do something about it. Speak to whoever's hosting, or find one of us at the bar.

These are house rules, not contractual terms. Booking, cancellation, private hire, membership, payment and privacy terms live separately and take precedence where they apply.

leave it good for the next person.

the room.the floor.the people.the atmosphere.

mmt. only works if we take care of it together.

thank you.
